TruthLock is built by Iron Rod Systems. It began as the verification layer inside a consumer product, was written down as two patent applications, and was then rebuilt as a service any deployment can run.
The patents
The five capabilities TruthLock implements are described in two provisional patent applications, filed together and now pending. They are written to the processes, not to any product, platform, or deployment.
The first describes assigning graduated epistemic states to claims, including refusal as a legitimate state, and enforcing operation-specific reliance constraints over them, so what a system may do with a claim depends on what the claim established.
The second describes attestation of those states, so an outside party can verify what standing a claim carried at the moment it was asserted, and whether it has since been superseded or invalidated.
They were filed together because neither stands alone. The first governs and cannot prove. The second proves and cannot govern. Enforcement without proof is a promise only you can vouch for. Proof without enforcement is a tamper-evident record of a system that never governed anything.
The first deployment
TruthLock was first deployed inside Iron Rod AI, a study assistant for a tradition with a deep and not always explicitly ranked authority hierarchy, where a fabricated reference is not an error rate but a lie about something sacred. Every response is decomposed, graded claim by claim against declared sources, labeled, and signed.
The processes held there, and they hold in a service manual or a case file. Only the knowledge domain and the hierarchy change. That deployment is now the first domain pack on the standalone service rather than its host.

Jeff has spent his career building AI systems that have to work in production: designing them, shipping them, and being the one who answers for them afterward. He founded Iron Rod Systems, built Iron Rod AI, holds the two pending patents behind TruthLock, and wrote the essay that explains why standing matters. He still writes most of the code.
